8 Drug Dealers Arrested in Police Operation
On April 11, the Provincial Gendarmerie Command teams carried out an operation coordinated by the Young Chief Public Prosecutor’s Office, targeting 43 suspects who were alleged to have committed organized drug production and trafficking. The operation, dubbed «Operation to Root Out,» resulted in 15 suspects being caught and detained in simultaneous operations held in Bingöl and Antalya.
During the searches conducted at the suspects’ addresses, the authorities seized significant amounts of illegal substances, including 2 kilos 473 grams of cannabis powder, 21 kilos 865 grams of herbal cannabis, 11 cannabis plants, and 18 grams of cannabis seeds. In addition, the authorities confiscated an unlicensed hunting rifle, two unlicensed pistols, 11 gun ammunition, one scale, 14 mobile phones, and 17 SIM cards.
While the authorities continue their efforts to apprehend the remaining suspects, eight of the suspects who were brought to the courthouse after their initial questioning by the gendarmerie have been arrested and sent to prison. Seven suspects were later released.
The success of this operation demonstrates the Turkish government’s commitment to combating drug-related crimes in the country. The authorities will undoubtedly continue to take aggressive action against drug trafficking and production to keep communities safe from the harms caused by these illegal activities.
