Breaking news: President Erdogan met with Israeli President Herzog

According to the statement made by the Directorate of Communications, President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan had a telephone conversation with President of Israel Isaac Herzog. During the meeting, the raid of the Israeli security forces on Masjid al-Aqsa, their attack on the Qibla Masjid and their harsh interventions against those in the holy places were discussed. Stating that the events hurt the conscience of all humanity as much as Muslims, President Erdoğan underlined that it is not possible for them to remain silent in the face of provocations and threats against the status and spirituality of Masjid al-Aqsa.

President Erdoğan stated that during this sensitive period when Ramadan coincides with Passover, the tensions that spread to Gaza and Lebanon should not be allowed to escalate. Stating that the calls of radical Jewish groups to raid the Masjid al-Aqsa have increased the reactions and concerns, President Erdoğan underlined the importance of taking the necessary measures so that Muslims can perform their prayers without any problems, especially during the I’tikaf period, which will begin on April 11.

Expressing that it is necessary to prevent these events, which are repeated every Ramadan, from becoming the fate of the region, President Erdoğan expressed that they are ready to do their bit to get to the root of the problem and take steps towards establishing a just and lasting peace.
