Relations between Turkey and Germany have developed greatly in recent years, and Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan recently highlighted the importance of these relations. Erdoğan commented on his trip to Germany upon his return to his country and assessed the situation. He answered journalists’ questions and outlined several key agreements and discussions held with German officials.

Erdoğan emphasized that Germany, home to nearly 5 million Turkish citizens, is of great importance to Turkey, with bilateral trade volume exceeding $45 billion and initially targeting $50 billion by the end of the year. Furthermore, the president noted that an additional goal is to reach a trade volume of $60 billion with Germany.

German-origin companies have a major presence in Turkey, with more than 8,000 operating in the country. When it comes to tourism, Germany ranks at the top for the number of visitors to Turkey, with 5.6 million German citizens visiting the country last year. Erdoğan also highlighted the strong relationships between the Turkish and German peoples, as well as the significant contribution of the Turkish community in Germany to the country’s economic, social, and cultural life.

In addition to economic and trade-related discussions, Erdoğan underscored the importance of addressing security issues and potential closer cooperation with Germany in this area. He expressed Turkey’s firm stance in the fight against terrorism and called for closer security cooperation with Germany.

The Turkish president also addressed the European Union’s biased stance against Turkey, stressing the need for positive developments in the area of EU membership, visa exemptions, and the updating of the Customs Union. He called for greater support of mutual investments to further strengthen trade relations between Turkey and the EU.

During Erdoğan’s meetings with German officials, the situation in Gaza was prominently discussed. He expressed Turkey’s views that Israel is a state of terrorism, highlighting the need to address the suffering of Palestinian civilians. He recalled the importance of seeking a ceasefire and ensuring the delivery of aid to Gaza, emphasizing Turkey’s ongoing support for the region.

Erdoğan further criticized Israel’s actions in Gaza, urging for fair and transparent inspections of Israel’s nuclear weapons. He also called for international accountability for Israel’s violations and stressed the need to challenge the misinformation spread by Israeli authorities.

Overall, President Erdoğan’s trip to Germany underlined the significant role of the country in Turkey’s foreign relations and emphasized the need for continued dialogue and collaboration to address critical regional and international issues.
