Continuous Foreign Funding for Orbán’s Fidesz: The ‘Dollar Left’
Hungary’s ruling Fidesz party has accused the country’s «dollar left» of receiving substantial funding from foreign sources, aimed at influencing Hungarian politics. According to the communications director of Fidesz, a report has been submitted to the national security committee citing left-wing parties receiving funding from multiple sources. While the identity of some donors is now known, the provenance of much of the funding is still unknown. Fidesz has called on the opposition to disclose the source of the funds and if the billionaire philanthropist George Soros has any involvement. Hungary has frequently been at odds with Soros, who is a frequent target of Prime Minister Viktor Orban’s anti-immigration policies.
