Face-to-face education at universities starts today

President of the Council of Higher Education Prof. Dr. After Erol Özvar’s announcement of the new decisions they took after the earthquakes in Kahramanmaraş, to be implemented as of April 3, 2023, for the spring term of the 2022-2023 academic year, the university senates also gathered and shared the details of the application with their students.

According to the information received from some university rectors, universities took action upon the decision of the Higher Education Council regarding the possibility of participating in face-to-face education without the condition of attendance for students who want while continuing distance education.

Universities, which have made the necessary arrangements for the face-to-face education option that will start again as of today, have determined the details of a course in the senates regarding both distance education and face-to-face teaching.

In this context, students will be offered the choice of face-to-face education in addition to distance education in the classrooms. Simultaneous online or asynchronous offline distance learning methods can be used for students who cannot attend classes face to face.

Classrooms during the COVID-19 pandemic are ready for hybrid education

Universities have determined models that will implement the blended (hybrid) education option in different ways, where distance education is offered as well as face-to-face education. Some universities will use the technological infrastructure they have established in the classrooms for hybrid education during the COVID-19 epidemic period.

In this context, faculty members will offer both distance education and face-to-face education simultaneously to their students through cameras, microphones and other distance education infrastructure technologies integrated into smart boards in the classrooms. Students who cannot participate in face-to-face training will also be able to follow the training in the classroom online simultaneously.

In some universities, although there is no technological system integrated into the classrooms, it will enable the online courses to be followed at the same time while teaching the class by using various distance education technologies.

Offline distance learning options

While some universities offer face-to-face education to their students, they will also be able to use asynchronous distance education methods for their students who choose online courses.

Universities that record the course materials and audio narrations in face-to-face courses for later viewing for their students who cannot follow the online courses will also be able to apply some asynchronous distance education methods.

Midterm exams will be held online

On the other hand, midterm exams at universities in the spring semester will be held online with distance education methods, except for programs that include practical training, which is given the right to special student status.

Authorized boards of higher education institutions will decide when and how exams such as the end of the semester, single course, thesis monitoring, proficiency exam will be held.
