In Adana, where there are fertile lands, the harvest has started in onions planted on an area of ​​23 thousand decares. Agricultural workers who came to the city from different parts of Turkey entered the fields for the onion harvest from the early hours. The workers disassembled the onions one by one, filled them into sacks, sewed the mouth of them and made them ready for sale. Onions were counted and loaded on trucks by the onion ambassadors and started to be sent to all corners of Turkey according to demand.

Giving information about the harvest, Mehmet Akın Doğan, President of Yüreğir Chamber of Agriculture, said that the onion harvest in Adana started yesterday, and today it is collected on the one hand and loaded into trucks by being put in sacks. Doğan stated that onions will be sent to all provinces in Turkey from Adana and said, “Last year, the onion harvest in Adana started on April 14. It started 15 days early this year. In 2021, the onion was left in the field in Adana and Hatay, and in 2022, onions were planted on 12 thousand 500 decares of land in Adana. Last year, onions put a smile on the farmer’s face,» he said.

Stating that the price of onions is between 17-18 TL in warehouses in Ankara and it is sold around 20-25 TL in the market, Akın said, «The harvest of onions has started now, but the prices will be a little high until the feast. Prices will begin in Adana and Hatay after the feast. It will gradually decrease. Last year, there was an onion planting area of ​​12,500 decares. Onion is planted on an area of ​​23 thousand decares in Adana this year. Since the onion here is 1 week early, harvesting has begun. After 1 week and 10 days, the harvest will begin all over Adana. and the price will decrease as it enters the market. Currently, the price of onions in the field is sold between 17-18 TL.»

Doğan stated that they want the export door to be opened and said, “While the onion is harvested in Adana, we want the onions to be sent abroad as well. Onion planting is also high in Reyhanlı this year. If the foreign gates are not opened when those onions come out, the onions will remain in our hands,” he said.

Metin Öztekin, one of the producers, stated that they had the first harvest of the year and said, «Good luck. It’s pretty good, thank goodness. If we are not satisfied with the price, it is good.”
