Temel Kotil: A Trailblazer in Aeronautical Engineering
Temel Kotil, a prominent figure in the field of aeronautical engineering, was born in 1959 in the Araklı neighborhood of Gündoğdu town in Rize. He graduated from Istanbul Technical University Aeronautical Engineering Department in 1983 and went on to complete a master’s degree and a doctorate in Mechanical Engineering at the University of Michigan in Ann Arbor, USA.
Kotil’s academic career took him to several prestigious institutes across the world. He was the founder and manager of Aviation and Advanced Composites Laboratories at ITU Faculty of Aeronautics and Astronautics from 1991-93. During his time at ITU, he served as an Assistant Professor, Associate Professor, Deputy Head of the Department, and the Deputy Dean of the Faculty.
After leaving ITU, Kotil worked as the Head of the Research, Planning, and Coordination Department of the Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality. He later served as a visiting professor at the University of Illinois in the USA in 2001 and also worked as the Head of the Research and Engineering Department at Advanced Innovative Technologies Inc. in New York.
Kotil currently teaches at the Department of Mechanical Engineering at Istanbul University. He has made significant contributions to the field of aeronautical engineering and has many research and scientific publications to his name.
Aside from his academic achievements, Kotil is also a family man. He is married and has four children.
