Turkey Launches Its First Domestic and National Observation Satellite
President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan has announced the launch of Turkey’s first domestic and national observation satellite named IMECE, into space. The satellite, equipped with a high-resolution electro-optical camera, will allow Turkey to capture images not only from its own country but also from any part of the world. The IMECE satellite is Turkey’s most advanced earth observation satellite in terms of image resolution, communication speed, and maneuverability.
In a video message, President Erdogan congratulated everyone who contributed to the design, development, production, and launch of the satellite. He emphasized the importance of investing in space and aerospace technologies as an indispensable strategic priority.
With the establishment of the Turkish Space Agency and the TÜBİTAK Space Technologies Research Institute, Turkey has accelerated the training of competent human resources. The country has a solid background with its expert engineers, strong industrial capacity, growing number of sprout companies, talented scientists, and the youth of TEKNOFEST, its biggest source of assurance.
Turkey is constantly upping the gears towards its goals of developing its own satellites, sending vehicles to the lunar surface, sending a Turkish citizen to the international space station, and creating a space industry ecosystem. The IMECE satellite will be Turkey’s eye in many areas, especially in national defense, disaster management, agriculture, forestry, environment, and urbanism.
Turkey’s national technology move aims to raise the country to the highest level in the global technology league. The size of the global space economy has grown from $245 billion in 2009 to $469 billion in 2021, with numbers still increasing day by day.
