President Erdogan Addresses Crowd at Earthquake Housing Groundbreaking Ceremony in Diyarbakir
President Erdogan spoke at the Earthquake Housing Groundbreaking Ceremony in Diyarbakir today following MHP leader Devlet Bahçeli. In his speech, President Erdogan expressed appreciation for the city, calling it the «pearl of the beautiful Tigris.»
He acknowledged that Diyarbakir has had to fight for 40 years to protect its unity, solidarity, and brotherhood against those who are eyeing their bread. The President also stated, «Have there been any wrongdoings and persecutions done to this city and its people in the past? Of course, it did.»
Erdogan pointed out the former Diyarbakir prison and stated it was being converted into a cultural center, indicating it was a witness to the past persecutions. He also referred to the death of 51 Kurdish babies and the martyrdom of Yasin Börü, emphasizing that it was the murderers and terrorists who were the problem.
Lastly, he posed the question, «Are we ready to teach these terrorists the necessary lesson on May 14?» The President received thunderous applause in response to this statement.
Overall, Erdogan’s message to the people of Diyarbakir was one of solidarity, brotherhood, and protection against terrorism. The President ended his speech by greeting all of the districts and streets of Diyarbakir and expressing his love for the city.
