Violence against women ‘hidden tab’ mobile application

A new mobile application for women was developed by the United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA) Turkey. A guide on sexual and reproductive health, the application, which looks like a ‘Menstrual Calendar’ at first glance, helps women when they feel unsafe thanks to its hidden second screen. Considering the women who were left alone in their homes and suffered violence during the pandemic period, the practice started in 2020, UNFPA Turkey Representative Hassan Mohtashami, Women’s Coalition Representative Selma Acuner, on behalf of the UK Ambassador to Turkey Carl Spychal, UNFPA Turkey Goodwill Ambassador actress Songül Öden was introduced with the participation of Edis Görgülü, one of the goodwill ambassadors, and many guests. Information on how to use the application was also shared at the meeting.

UNFPA Turkey Representative Hassan Mohtashami drew attention to the fact that gender equality and empowering women are the cornerstones of development and peace security.

“A VERY COMPREHENSIVE AGENDA”

UNFPA Goodwill Ambassador Songül Öden said, “UNFPA has been working on this application since about 2020. It was really meticulous work. Its purpose was to turn all practices of combating violence against women in Turkey into an agenda with call buttons and to provide information. to women; to provide personal and legal information, to define the types of violence and to help the person to be conscious of whether he or she has been subjected to this type of violence in various surveys. There is a navigation application, a very comprehensive agenda, such as creating a kind of tracking, location tracking by sending a call to someone else when you don’t feel safe or in danger. «We want more women to benefit from it,» she said.

“THIS APPLICATION CONTAINS AN IMPORTANT PRIVACY AGREEMENT”

Öden said, “At first glance, it looks like other women’s practices. But when you click the button 4 times, it takes you to a completely different hidden page. It tells you whether you are in danger there, which addresses are the correct addresses, what are the organizations closest to your own address that can reach you the fastest, what the numbers are. Therefore, it is a very important confidentiality agreement, this application contains a very important confidentiality agreement.»

EDIS Görgülü: I will try to spread as much as I can.

Edis Görgülü, the artist who listened to the details of the application for the first time at the launch, said, “It is a very good application, an application that works interactively. At the same time, it is the first application that I have seen in order to keep a diary and better perceive violence among the dozens of things that happen to a woman. People of the world, unfortunately, are not very aware of the types of violence, because it is not a special case for Turkey. The dating violence that draws my attention the most is enough for them to press the emergency button after they realize that they have been exposed to it, even if they have been informed about it. I will try to spread as much as I can. I will try to announce it to everyone who knows me, especially my followers and concert audiences,» he said.
