EU Commission Okays €1 Billion Scheme to Support Hungarian Firms
Hungary has received approval from the European Commission for a €1 billion (approx. HUF 379 billion) scheme to support companies facing increased energy costs due to Russia’s war against Ukraine. The aid for additional costs follows exceptional energy price increases and will come in the form of loans and guarantees. The scheme will be open to companies of all sizes and sectors, except for the financial sector and possibly harmful environmental sectors. The Hungarian government has been using state funds to subsidise the price of natural gas and electricity for both households and companies, but these costs are becoming a serious burden amid skyrocketing wholesale prices.
