Gunpowder Letter Sent to Finnish Embassy in Moscow
Finnish Embassy in Moscow Receives Threatening Letters Containing Gunpowder
The Finnish Embassy in Moscow recently received three letters containing gunpowder, raising concerns about the safety of embassy staff. The embassy immediately contacted the Russian Ministry of Foreign Affairs to investigate the source and motive behind the threats.
The incident comes at a time when the relationship between Moscow and Helsinki has deteriorated, particularly since Finland officially became the 31st member of NATO on April 4. Finland shares a long land border with Russia, which adds to the tensions between the two countries.
The Finnish government has been working to improve its defense capabilities, partly in response to Russia’s annexation of Crimea in 2014 and its subsequent military activities in the Baltic Sea region. Finland’s decision to join NATO has been interpreted by Russia as a direct threat to its security and a provocation.
It is not yet clear who sent the threatening letters to the Finnish Embassy in Moscow, nor what the motive behind the threats were. However, the incident reinforces the need for caution and vigilance as tensions continue to rise between Russia and its neighbors in the region.
