«Health Warning: Keep This Away from Your Iftar Table»
Ready-made soup consumption can be harmful to our health, according to expert dietitian Veysel Ciğerli. Although instant soups are quick and convenient, they often contain additives such as monosodium glutamate and excessive amounts of sodium, which can lead to increased blood pressure and disrupted heart rhythms. It is recommended to make soups at home where salt can be controlled and choose low-salt options. Ciğerli also suggested starting meals with soup during Ramadan to provide hydration and recommended consuming pulpy soups for intestinal health. While vegetable soups can be stored in the refrigerator for 2-3 days, yogurt, meat, and chicken soups should be consumed daily within 12 hours. Home cooking and healthy choices can be key to maintaining good health during Ramadan and beyond.
