US soldiers accompanied YPG/PKK ringleader in Northern Iraq as part of fight against Daesh, says US Department of Defense spokesperson
During a daily press conference, Brigadier General Patrick Ryder, the spokesperson for the US Department of Defense, was asked about the presence of three US soldiers accompanying Ferhat Abdi Şahin, also known as «Mazlum Abdi», one of the YPG/PKK terrorist organization’s ringleaders in Northern Iraq.
Responding to the question, Ryder stated that the soldiers were present as part of the fight against Daesh, emphasizing that the US’s mission is to defeat the terrorist group and ensure they are unable to regroup or launch attacks.
The spokesperson also referred to an incident that occurred on April 7 in Sulaymaniyah, Iraq, where a convoy, including US soldiers, was fired upon while on its way. Although the ammunition fell within 100 meters of the convoy, there were no casualties incurred.
The presence of US soldiers alongside YPG/PKK ringleaders has raised concerns among some critics, who argue that it undermines the country’s credibility and threatens its relationship with Turkey. However, the US officials insist that their presence is solely for the purpose of fighting Daesh, and not in support of any other group or individual.
